Dún Laoghaire East Pier

The ambition for the project was to remediate c. 850m of damage in the above-water, intertidal, and underwater zones of the outer revetment of the East Pier.

The East Pier spans approximately 1.6km, and features an inner sea wall, dual pedestrian access levels, an upper wall on the East side of the walkways, and a sloping revetment leading into the waters of Dublin Bay. The pier culminates in a roundhead that includes a lighthouse within a historic Battery complex.

The pier remained accessible to the public throughout the project duration and thus a barge was used for concrete delivery by sea to the remedial locations.

PUNCH provided civil, structural, and marine engineering services, along with PSDP and cost management support for the DLR project. We worked closely with the council engineers throughout the duration of the project.

Our team conducted thorough surveys both above and below water, identified the required remediation, and prepared the necessary tender documents. Additionally, we managed the tendering process for the works.

During the construction phase, we acted as the Employer’s Representative for the project.
