Coolanagh Mixed Development

PUNCH Consulting Engineers worked on a development at the same site in the early 1970s. The Coolanagh project was one of PUNCH’s first buildings to be redeveloped for a new purpose. Our in depth knowledge of the site and the poor underlying ground conditions, and experience of the challenges of tidal water table, contributed greatly to the success of this development.

This 8-storey mixed use landmark development in Limerick City Centre includes a major retail outlet store in the heart of the city in addition to an apartment complex with spectacular views over the city.

An interesting challenge was set for PUNCH; to provide highly visible entrances for the main anchor tenant, Dunnes Stores, within the precast concrete envelope, without compromising the structural stability of the corners of the building. PUNCH integrated their façade engineering skills with the main structural elements to achieve this, including feature steel connections working sympathetically with the architectural vision required.
