Pulpit Rock Bridge

The road improvement scheme at Pulpit Rock on the eastern site of Loch Lomond required a new bridge, 165m long and following a tight “S” curve in the roadway.  The site was an environmentally sensitive area and one of exceptional natural beauty, requiring a sensitive design solution which was economically viable to construct in the difficult terrain.

PUNCH Consulting Engineers were appointed as independent structural consultants, and the service began with a review of the emerging design proposals in the pre-tender stage, with formal sign-off on the final proposal included in the bid to Transport Scotland.

On award of the Contract to McLoughlin & Harvey Ltd., we then proceeded to carry out a fully independent design of the bridge in compliance with Eurocodes and UK annexes to meet the requirements for a Category 3 check to the DMRB.
