Rosslare Europort plays a vital role in the national infrastructure that connects Europe and the UK. Following BREXIT, European sailings have surged by over 400% to meet the substantial increase in freight volumes.
In response to post-BREXIT challenges, the Port launched a five-phase development plan, with the OPW acquiring land to create new facilities for the Terminal 7 site. The project also includes phase 1-3 of the new port development on behalf of CIE. The entire area spans 20 hectares across 1.5 km, requiring careful phasing to ensure uninterrupted port operations during this important national infrastructure project.
PUNCH has been appointed by the Office of Public Works (OPW) to deliver a comprehensive range of engineering services, including PSDP, civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering, for this project. In support of the OPW, PUNCH provided engineering design services for the planning applications and created detailed designs for the civil and geotechnical works. We also prepared the necessary documentation for the tender package.
Collaborating closely with the OPW, our teams developed improved structural engineering design schemes and performance specifications for the tender package. PUNCH managed the procurement and oversight of site investigations and other survey subcontracts on behalf of the client and delivered PSDP services to ensure compliance and safety throughout the project.
The tender was issued as a Design & Build (D&B) contract, with the expectation that the civil works would adhere to the design requirements established by PUNCH and that the structural works would primarily follow the enhanced design package as provided. We are currently appointed as Technical Advisor to the OPW for the overseeing and monitoring of the civil, structural and geotechnical works during the construction phase.
